Arezzo is the closest large city to Poggiobello. It has been an important commercial center since Etruscan and Roman times, with a beautiful medieval heart and a significant artistic patrimony, including the largest cycle of frescoes by Piero della Francesca (early Renaissance) experimenting with perspective. In Arezzo you will discover treasures of all kinds: from beautiful architecture and old churches to contemporary art and precious gold jewels, it is one of the main centers for goldsmiths in Italy. It is a lovely town to shop with wonderful boutiques. You will enjoy some free time to stroll through Piazza Grande, the medieval square surrounded by a melange of Medieval and Renaissance palaces and towers.

If you are Piero della Francesca lover, we suggest you to visit his birthplace, the medieval walled town of Sansepolcro, not far from Arezzo and the little town of Anghiari, a lesser known place but extremely picturesque.

Going back to Poggiobello, you can stop in Monte Sansavino and taste typical porchetta (a crusted baked pork, in portions of cold pieces in wraps, blend of seasoning like rosemary, fennel and garlic). Or walk through Lucignano’s concentric alleyways, visit the Museum where, among many important artworks, there is the beautiful “Golden Tree of Life” dating back to the 15th century.
