Siena

The top sights in Siena can feasibly be visited in about one full day. It is renowned worldwide for its art and architecture, Siena is second only to Florence as a Tuscan art town. For many, its much smaller size and the absence of traffic in the historical center makes it more appealing than Florence as a place to enjoy the treasures of Romanesque and Renaissance, as well as the modern Italian lifestyle. The cathedral is one of Italy’s most interesting, especially its inlaid marble mosaic floor covering the whole floor of the church. In Siena you will have the pleasure to taste the most typical sweets of the area, namely Panforte and Ricciarelli.  If you are lucky, you will experience the Palio, a historical horserace held in the main square (Piazza del Campo) twice a year, which stirs the emotions of the townspeople today as it did in the past.

Another interesting one-day itinerary from Poggiobello is San Gimignano, famous for its perfectly preserved medieval towers and fascinating streets that seems to take you back to another age, and the charming walled castle of Monteriggioni a small and peaceful village that has maintained its traditions. In both site you can climb and walk along the massive walls from where you will admire great views over the Tuscan countryside.
